I love the openness of being just in the hammock, with nothing above but the stars.
If there's a chance of rain, are there any shortcuts to be able to set up a quick rain tarp? I'd do the ridgeline in advance, of course.
Thanks

That's one of the nice things about storing a tarp in snakeskin. You string it up, but it's basically just a thick ridgeline until you need it. If the rain starts, you slide off the skins and all you have to do is guy out the sides.
Edit: in case you're not familiar with the snakeskin:

Another option.. just pitch half your tarp.
If you have a CRL on your tarp, you could pitch the back half of the tarp, or go crazy & try to pitch it only over your feet.
CRL?
thanks
continuous ridge line. As in.. if you put a line between two trees, and then hang your tarp from it, it's a continuous ridge line.
Snakeskins are the best option, in my opinion. Stake out the tarp the way you want it pitched for rain, disconnect and put it back in the skins. You can pitch the back of the tarp and pull the front over it, but if I plan to go tarpless I just start out that way.

Has anyone mentioned snakeskins?

I can't say I'm a fan of waking up to deploy the tarp. I prefer to do the star-gazing before I lay in the hammock. Seems a lot of people like to enjoy the sky, the views, etc., while they're in the hammock, but when I go to bed, I want to sleep, not wake up in the middle of the night to deploy a tarp.

Rain is not the only thing that a tarp catches. Sap. Bird ****. Small branches. Acorns....
