Hi I've just been curious what most people do sleeping bag wise. Thanks, Brett

I use one as a top quilt, but only because I can't afford a "real" top quilt yet. However, it really does work well for me (mostly car camping and above freezing temps) so it's hard to justify replacing it.
I started with a sleeping bag as my top quilt when I started hanging. I have since replaced it with Flight Jacket top quilt that I use even if I go to ground. No more sleeping bags for me.
Well, I just go with what I anticipate on a particular trip. I plan on the worst and hope for the best. I frequently spend time in subarctic conditions. Which translates to my life might be dependent on my gear. In serious cold I have a sleeping bag I use.
Here on the West Coast I use a DIY top quilt. I have just finished making two of them, one down the other man made materials. I love them because they are the correct length for me, which I have never enjoyed that particular luxury. I am sure all you tallll people understand how nice it is to have something the right size. I happen to be short, kid sizes do not fit and the quality is lacking. If I had to go to ground I would probably use a bag, because of the wind, less fiddle factor with a bag in a gale.
I think it just depends on each individual to pick what the best for their anticipated conditions. I think it is very important to remember our life and limbs could depend on our equipment, so we must make our choices wisely. Wise use of our equipment can and does save lives. EXperience, Experience.
Wow interesting.
I have no special talent. I am only passionately curious.

I have done 12 nights so far in my hammock (Hennessy Ultralight Explorer Classic), temps have ranged from 30F up to 65F using Hennessy SS (adding a Therma-rest pad on colder nights), and a sleeping bag. In cold weather I have been using a Kelty Cosmic Down 0F bag and in warmer weather an REI Flash 30F bag, with good results. I have used the sleeping bag both zipped up and as a quilt depending on temps and how I am feeling in the hammock. The only drawback to me is the set up with the SS and pad taking time, whereas a UQ would be much simpler (possibly warmer?).
Although I believe life would be easier with a UQ I am saving that $$ for my next hammock purchase which will be a WBBXLC and quilts (no decision on the make at this time). My son has expressed interest in getting off the ground while camping so he will get the Hennessy.
Quilts above zero F.
Subzero F, ccf and sleeping bag.
I move around too much and top quilts are not working well for me even at 40*F
I have a good old military sleep system. I pick and choose what bag is going to best depending on the weather ( I don't carry the whole thing!). Most of the time I just carry the patrol bag and a pad. This system works well for me and I have slept with the patrol bag into the lower 30's without a problem (with proper clothing). I move around a bit in my sleep so a sleeping bag makes sense for me. I do plan on making an underquilt/ pea pod setup in the future but honestly I am happy with my sleeping bag.
I voted the "No Sleeping Bag" option because I only use quilts now... but seems like there should have been a couple more options, like "only quilts" and "quilt and liner" and "quilt > 10ºC (50ºF) > quilt + bag > -10ºC (14ºF) > TaunTaun + bag"
