My son and I are the same way. We are actually in the T&E phase of our DIY quilts made from 0 degree mil issue sleeping bags for our UQ and modified mil issue 30 degree bags. They are working out great. The mil issue bags when used together as a ground bag Are rated at -30 degrees. So one as a UG and the other as a TQ we are pretty warm. Much easier to sleep in a HH without a pad.
HG Phoenix 40 and Burrow 50 with extra stuffing, if I need more heat I use a bad liner (Sea to summit reactor)
