I have hundreds and hundreds of night sleeping out in tents, bivys or under, the stars Eagle Scout 50 years ago. But hopefully by Sunday night I will built my hammock stand and have my first Hang night out.
I have about 10 difference Big Agnes sleeping bags (from 40 down to zero and they can be combined). They only have a 2/1/2" pad pocket on the bottom with no insulation. The Big Agnes pad pocket keeps the pad from moving around. I just purchased a Klymit 23X 72x 2 1/2" insulated Static V pad with an R value of 4.4, weighs 25 ounces and packs to 5"x9". Got it from Amazon for about $60
Additionally, if you check the sold eBay prices on the Big Agnes, they are pretty reasonable.
THere are some great close-out deals on Kelty Noah 12'X12' and maybe even 16'x16' in the $60 range right now . Just Google that. I am going to buy one or the other today of those total as my first do it yourself project for a STORM tent. (My HH has a puny tarp)
The point here is that I am trying to have as much dual purpose/hobby gear as possible (and that the wife can agree with) .
And then there is the night you are forced to the ground.....
Best of luck
Paul
