Has anyone done this? It works for me, but I'm not sure if it weakens the amsteel, since if it does slip, the bury is just resting on a knot.

If your bury is slipping it's not long enough, you shouldn't need a knot to keep it from slipping.
Good luck,

No offense at all, but I think that is a terrible idea. The whole idea of splicing is to avoid knots because a splice weakens the rope less than a knot.
I have never had a bury slip...how long is your slipping bury? And what diameter of Amsteel are you using, because the length of your bury is dependent upon the diameter of your rope.
Papa Smurf provides this great calculator that will give you the lengths of bury, etc..

I generally agree with the others assessment, but... What is the length of your bury and diameter of cord, and approx weight suspended?
I would probably cut off or undo the locked brummel loop and bury more and test it out for slippage to see, or clean first to see if some tree sap or something (hand sweat/grease) is causing it to slip. I'm always scientifically curious try not to jump to conclusions or most obvious solutions.

Eh, my bury doesn't normally slip, and when it does it doesn't slip far (I think 1 foot was the max), I just wanted to see if this was common. I'll stop using the slip knots.
I have 6.5 inches on the lighter amsteel.
6.5" seems a little short for 7/64" amsteel, which could explain the max. 1 foot slippage.
Rule of thumb is 72 fibs for a bury length, so 72 x 7/64" is 7.9".
I don't know if that makes it worth redoing the buries though. Perhaps just carefully milking the bury once you are set up, and don't hang across a crevasse.![]()
