Socks tend to be smaller volumes, and the sides of the sock are more likely to be in contact with the hammock, but that difficulty can be overcome by using side tie-outs. In my winter set-up the hammock tieouts attach to the inside if the sock/tent, and a corresponding tieout on the outside of the sock attaches to the tarp tieout point. Then a single line from the tarp pulls all three into position. Only the tarp tieout needs adjusting; the other two are fixed. The one from the hammock to the sock should be a bungee, though.
