Basically I simply do not have any money that would allow me to purchase any materials that I can be sure would hold up my weight and allow me to sleep in the hammock daily. I honestly want to convert to hammock sleeping for long term financial reason. It is far cheaper to replace/repair a hammock vs replacing mattress based bed. In fact, the support frame for my mattress just broke last week so I have been sleeping on the mattress on the floor. My wife's bed frame is cracking too. So I hope to get this stand made and set up in time to hopefully convert my wife to hammock sleeping before we are forced to spend $$$ on a new bed. I already have enough cordage for the stand, just need the actual structural material.
So I have been searching freecycle and Craigslist free listing here in DC with absolutely no luck. I have been offering xbox games and other stuff that I am getting rid of in exchange for some of the hammock stands for sale with no luck so far.
Basically I am wanting to make a turtlelady/turtledog style stand similar to the first post in this thread, https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...ad.php?t=51787 I am open to other style of stand as long as it does not require me to attach it to the wall/door/structure of the apartment.
I also do not have any tools that would enable me to cut down bamboo that I have seen up for free on Craigslist nor know how to identify whether it is sturdy enough or not. Do anybody here have any tip on how to find these materials in or around Washington, DC for free/trade?
Would it be breaking the subforum rule if I post in the southeast subforum offering some type of trade for a hammock stand or material there?
How do I go about all of this?
thank you for any and all advices.
