I'm shopping for a tarp that will fit my hanging needs. I hang in an ENO DoubleNest hammock with the Guardian Bug net.
On an impulse, I picked up the 12' Kelty Noah tarp from REI. There is nothing wrong with this tarp, but I am finding that the 12' ridgeline does make site selection more of a task. Also, it's a bit large and cumbersome for my liking.
I am looking at the ENO Profly/Sil Nylon Profly, and am wondering if the $45-$50 price jump is worth it for the Sil Nylon. I understand that Sil Nylon is going to provide better water protection in the event of a downpour, but of the ProFly reviews I have read on REI.com and Amazon.com, people are saying that the basic ProFly kept them dry during rain (aside from windblown rain).
I've checked out a few other tarps that are a bit more manageable in size, but I'm not sure if any are really any better in the value column. if you have any suggestions other than the ENO ProFly, please feel free. I'd like to spend around the $80 mark for a good tarp that will suit my needs of occasional over nighter bike-camping trips. And some afternoon rainstorm hangs in the park.
