Anyone tried this thing? I'm extremely curious about it.

I have used Mac's, and made my own from cotton cloth.
These work best in deep cold, below 20f even better at -20f.
Frost usually forms on the outside of the sock, rather than the inside like it does on a nylon sock.

Thank you so much. I thoroughly enjoyed watching ya'll at the Frozen Butt Hang. I'm thinking I may not truly need to consider a sock until I can talk more people into winter camping. My normal buddies all wimped out on me this winter so I spent most of the time solo.
Canvas has truly superior vapor permeability and wind resistance in deep cold. It works better than any other material as an outer cover in those conditions.
However, if there is any chance of water in liquid form, it's too warm for canvas!

Could I use it with an 11ft hammock?

I used my MMG canvas sock last winter, worked great but it only got down to -10F
Try a Canvas Hammock Sock when it's real cold, blowin' hard and snowin', and you'll really appreciate the superior wind-proof and breathable attributes of canvas. If it's gonna stay below 20*F, I don't take a tarp, just a Canvas Hammock Sock!
BTW, we call it canvas, but it's ~4 oz cotton, a little heavier than a bedsheet.

Just thinking out loud here.
This might be a safer idea if you hang near a campfire.
I have used my very heavy 11'x11' canvas tarp and hung a little closer to the fire with a cotton sheet instead of a bug net over my DIY parachute hammock.
