When- April 13-15
Where- Chattooga River Trail.
Hike north along the Chattooga from Burrells Ford to the bridge over the East Fork. There is a multitude of hanging opportunities just before you cross the bridge. It's about a 30-45 minute easy hike from the trailhead.
On the map below, the purple line is the Foothills Trail. Burrell's Ford is near the bottom.
The black line is the Chattooga River Trail.
The green line is the Fork Mountain Trail. It runs from the Sloan's Bridge Picnic area on the FHT to the Chattooga River. The teal line is a 10 mile loop from the river, up to the Fish Hatchery and back.
To get to Burrell's Ford
From Walhalla SC, go north 8.5 miles on Hwy 28 to SC 107. Go right on Hwy107 for 8.9 miles to Burrell's Ford Road (FR 708). Left on Burrell's Ford Road for 3 miles to Burrells Ford Campground parking area. Drive on past the parking lot for the campground and park at the bottom of the hill at the trailhead on the right. If you get to the river, you just passed it.
Or...set your GPS for Oconee State Park. This will take you all the way to Hwy 107, just a few miles south of Burrell's Ford Road, on the left.
