Me and my buddy went out last night for an overnighter close to home at Miquelon Lake. Temps got down around -7c (19f) last night and it was about -10c (14f) this morning. We found a great spot at the boat launch, skies were clear and the moon was bright, almost too bright to really appreciate the stars.
It was my first time using doors (although I only used on one end). It was his first real winter hang, my second.
We had a real issue trying to get our stoves lit. I had a diy sort of fancee feast and a smokeeater908 mini and he had an Evernew Appalachian ti set. We tried both methyl hydrate and Heet but really had to work hard to get them lit. We tried a flint, a lighter and a small mini torch. A few hours earlier we had no problem getting fired up for coffee and it was probably about 0c (32f).
Obviously the temperature plays a role in igniting fuel.
By the way, that Evernew set was awesome. Once we got the stove going, it boiled 2 cups in about 3 minutes and he had 2 boils done before I even had any sign of boiling.
