Ive just got into hammock camping and started out with the camo nx-250 and the vertex rainfly.
ive already changed out the suspension to a lighter 7mm cord and put a separate continuous ridgeline on it, as well as a small inner 2mm cord for hanging a light or anything else adjustable from foot to head, still plenty of playing to do yet to get this where i want it.
then after such i decided to get onto the issue of insulation, so i found an old small sleeping bag, went to a sewing shop and got four or so $2.99 eyelet kits. They come with a hole punch and the small steel pieces to press together to make a fixed hole.
I put in a tonne of them, about an inch and a half, not quite apart. I then threaded some 4mm shock cord through and viola, i have an underquilt.
Within 45 seconds of being in it, you feel your body heat returned, ive already put a night in and slept like a baby, not that its hot in Melbourne Australia right now but can be windy which can cause you to feel the cold.
Ive threaded 4 pieces of 2mm cord at each end and affixed them to the ridgeline with a clip clipped on and pulled taught with a prusik knot to where the UQ stays where i want it.
What i like about this is that the sides come up well past the zipper and because ive put so many eyelets in it and so close it hugs the nx250 and leaves not a lot of room for air to get in and steel away my warmth.
The whole thing (because i had the old sleeping bag laying around) cost $17 to set up. It last weighed in at 880grams.
The pics your about to see of it on the grouns are before i added all the eyelets, it has them in the pics where its attached to the hammock, it is also covering the hoops on the nx250, it does so with grace and yet still hugs nice and close. Good for a first noob i thought anyways.
