Wondering what kind of DIY tool everyone is using to make these. I saw someone had posted using a guitar string I think. Anyone else have a suggestion?
thanks

I use guitar string for zing-it but prefer a yarn needle for 7/64. Yarn needles have a large eye and can be purchased at WM among others of course.
You'll get lots of different suggestions on this, but you can save time by searching. This has been covered before in other threads.
Some posibilities:
- computer network wire (CAT 4, 5, or 6 untist a twisted pair and use a single strand; leave the insulation on)
- Dritz Loop Turner (product #647)
- hollow knitting needles (tricky - I suspect Puckerfactor is the only one who knows how to do this )
- plastic needle (about the same size as the "yarn darners")
I use a length of craft wire that is about 1mm in diameter folded in half. The length depends on the project I have a few different ones cut. 8" for a DynaGlide Soft Shackle Prusik up to about 20" for whoopies.
I think opie uses a similar tool...

Farnsworth: "Well then, good news! It's a suppository."
I just grabbed two flat spools of green floral wire - 22 and 24 ga. Snuck it in while the wife was shopping at Michael's. The larger works great with the 7/64 and the smaller with the 1.75 and 2.25. I also bought a pack of two larger plastic needles (no idea what they are called, but about 2 " long) These help a lot with the 7/64 to open the braid and to make the entrance/exit points. There are certainly better tools, but these really work just fine, no need to spend the big bucks.
I use a carpeting needle, eye is big enough for 7/64 and the tip is small enough to make mason's line workable.

I was desperate one night so I found some leftover electrical wire and cut the ground wire. Worked good until I could get to Joannes and get some floral wire, number 18 for amsteel but need smaller for the zingit and other small pieces.
Thanks everyone, I reckon I will go shopping later today and see what I can find.
First off I went to ACE Hardware and got some wire that is about 3 foot long. Two different sizes. Then I went to a Craft store and got some Flower wire and some short stubby needles to work with braided mason line in the near future.
I think the stiffer wire from the hardware works best, no problem at all, getting it to slide through the middle of the rope.
Thanks for all the replies...........now I reckon I will try to make some items.......thanks again
