Hi, glad to see another Michigan hammock hanger. I own an Explorer Deluxe Bottom entry.
The first trick is to separate the tarp and hammock body. Having the tarp hooked to suspension lines leads to the tarp sagging when the hammock is loaded.
Quickly switched out the suspension to something simpler. (whoopie slings) This is just personal preference though.
Best thing I can say though is get out and try it and see what works for you and what doesn't. The "tips" above are just what I think makes for a bit better setup. YMMV HYOH and so on.
EDIT: +1 on Shug's videos.
Welcome aboard Moosehead. Where abouts in Michigan ya from? No HH experience here, but I say just stick between some trees and see what happens Lots of good folks here, I'm sure someone can help. Anything specific thats got you puzzled?
Good luck,

im around the lapeer/davison area. Nah nothing real specific im having trouble with, was just wondering if there is any tips/tricks i should know before i start hanging and sleeping from the trees. i've slept in tents on the ground my whole hiking/camping career, so this is all new to me..but i've browsed around and wow there is a wealth of knowledge here, i hope to learn a lot and i plan on hanging around for awhile .
