In early American history about 20% of the forests east of the Mississippi River were Chestnut trees. In my father's youth these were wiped out by Chestnut Blight fungus.
In my youth we witnessed the loss of the Elm trees caused by Dutch Elm disease.
In my son's youth we are witnessing the loss of Oak trees due to Oak wilt.
We currently also witnessing the affects of fungus carried by the Emerald Ash borer beetle.
Please cut the DNR some slack. Their families are also affected by changes. They protect for all of us!
Change is the only constant in this world.
