We use a Dutch summer sock as part of our winter hammock system. Other parts are two 3 Season 2/4 underquilt rated to 20F, down top quilt rated to 10F. SOL breathable bivvy as an emergency backup. base later and fleece and ye olde hot water bottle or chem body warmer. We commonly take this set up out in 5F to 20F temps.
Looking to boost a bit and was intrigued by the canvas Molly Mac style canvas hammock sock.
Wondering if anyone has ever done something similar DIY. I could not find a pattern for hammock sock but plenty of patterns for bottom entry bug nets. Was thinking simple 9oz canvas drop cloth. Not waterproof so breathable. Heavier than Dutch's fine argon winter sock but maybe more warmth. In searching for drop cloth I also came upon Harbor Freight's wool mover's blanket. Thicker, heavier, maybe warmer. Might boost sock to peapod status? We usually pack heavier in winter and often reduce the hike in distance to establish base camp - so I am not sure if I am intimidated by the weight.
Would welcome your thoughts.
