Native of Charlotte, NC, this Scout and his dad went on camping trips on occasion. When he transplanted to a northern state in the US, he embraced the outdoors life with life and vigor, heading out to hike and camp preferring a hammock to a tent. He joined a few online discussion forums focusing on hammock camping all while developing a following online. After a friend gave him a camera, he shot a short vid while camping and asked his daughter how to post it. “Dad, you need a YouTube account,” she said.
12 years later Sean Emery has over 100,000 YouTube subscribers that watch “how to do things” in the Nut House, which is his name for a backyard structure used to store camping gear and practice his act. He calls himself a teacher, and personally, I have been schooled on more than one occasion. His humor, tutelage, and trip reports have not only entertained but encouraged me to move out of my comfort zone. When I could not get out of my house or away from work, he was HOW I saw the forests, the mountains, and quite frankly how to tie a useful knot. Through his world view and “regard for nature”, as he calls it, I could drink in a quiet moment with my own regard or learn what a pulk was for winter camping (for those of you that have used a pulk, I envy you.).
Now for the part you, the MAHHA attender, have been waiting for.
Shug has another gift that many of us did not know about. The man PAINTS!! Lawd, yes. And we do not have one, but
TWO prints of his paintings for our MAHHA raffle. They are individually wrapped with some swag behind the painting. Perfect!
Alright friends let’s give some love by subscribing to his YouTube channel (if you haven’t already) and check out some videos if you are new to the hammocking community. 5 bonus points if you know the name of the person in the hammock within the painting.
Thank you Shug, Lord of Lolly-Gagging, for supporting Trail Related Communities such as ours and those we support this year. WHOOOO BUDDYYYYYYYYYY!!!
