Hey all
Anyone have experience with backpacking FDR? I’m looking at doing a loop out there and wanted to see if anyone had advice or tips to share.
Thanks ahead of time.

If memory serves, Stevebo might have knowledge of that. Maybe. If he doesn't show up here, maybe PM him.
Is there a shuttle service or Uber that will come to that area and drop you at the start (so you can hike to your car at the other end)?

Only been there once with three other HF members who may chime in with more info if they read this. One recommendation would be to allow a good bit of time for checking in at the store or wherever you do so. They're not necessarily real fast about filling out the paperwork, even when you've called ahead and made reservations for campsites.
There may be some information and maps available from the PMTA (Pine Mountain Trail Association): www.pinemountaintrail.org

Awesome! Thank you both. I’ll check out both resources.

I go there all the time. PM me and we can chat or even talk on the phone.

In 100 years it won't make any difference...

I've been there a few times. The PMTA has a great map available that shows where all the campsites and water sources are, plus parking locations. With the main Pine Mountain Trail plus connector trails, you can customize your own hike as a loop or out-and-back pretty well. The trail itself is more scenic than I expected in mid-Georgia. It doesn't match the best the Smokies have to offer, but pretty good.
Things to look out for. You need to reserve your spot ahead of time at the main office, so it's not very flexible to change your route and camp at a different location. They do charge a per person, per night fee for overnight camping, plus parking. I think you can cover the parking fee with a GA State Park pass. You can also join the PMTA if you're gonna be there often which gives a discount. Also, I would contact the main office to see if their policies have changed in the Covid age.
"The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can.
Pursuing it with eager feet
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say."
