While the temps are still good before the heat sinks in...
It's time for some to say goodbye to the hanging season and for others time to say goodbye to the cold.
I say welcome to another weekend in the Florida Piney Woods. The woods at Hidden Pond to be more exact. It's a beautiful spring fed pond always filled with fresh water off the Florida Trail in the Ocala National Forrest.
This is a hike and hang location and a very primitive hang site so be prepared to hike in with all your gear. Very few folk have actually hiked out for a second trip for gear and only 1 to make a third trip. There are 3 different trailheads you can use to hike out to Hidden Pond. 2 starting on the Florida Trail and one that meets the FT so everyone will have at least a little FT time.
Hidden Pond Short trailhead - go East for about 2 miles and turn South (right) less than a half mile to the pond. Follow path to the right into the common area. This is the shortest and straightest of the 3 trails but overgrown. Sometimes the trail seems to disappear so be alert.
Pat's Island Trailhead - go South on the FT about 3.5 miles to the pond. Again stay to the right of the pond and into the common area. Probably the prettiest of the trails, you can really enjoy the beauty from the top of the rolling hills.
Juniper Springs Trailhead - go North on the FT about 5.5 miles to the pond. This path leads you to the left side of the pond so continue past the sandy beach then turn left and follow path into common area. The longest of the trails, a there is little overhead coverage so have sun protection and be ready for a creek crossing.
Come on out and join us for the inauguration to Florida's Spring Fling.
