    Double Ended Whoopie Sling

One of our most used slings at work is our transformer sling, it will look familiar to everyone here. as it is a double ended Whoopie sling

    20181122_141235.jpg

This one is made from 1/2" Amsteel and has a final constrictor length of 6" and is adjustable from 21" to 60" this one is rated at 2394 lbs straight rigged. ( Eye to Eye) Choker Rigged is 1915 lbs ( larks headed) and basket rigged 4787 lbs ( Load in the bight formed from both eyes being at same attachment point)

So being bored on a thanksgiving, and some spare 1/8" Amsteel, has lead to the creation of a hammock size Double Whoopie Sling.

    20181122_141356.jpg

    length is 27" to 52",

So based on a Minimum breaking strength(MBS) of 2300lbs for 1/8 Amsteel blue Dyneema, and using the the numbers reversed engineered from the above commercial sling. this the homemade sling would have an estimated strength of.

    straight Rigged 180 lbs (MBS x .0783)
    Choker Rigged 143 lbs (MBS x .0626)
    Basket Rigged 359 lbs (MBS x .15644)

Now this takes into account a massive safety factor and most would probably be comfortable at a much lower safety factor

What do you use them for at work? The downside if you are using it in the woods is the minimum length of 27" could limit your set up options a little.

Edit: Actually now that I think about it, because of the double ended nature of the sling I'm guessing they would be connected to a fixed loop on the hammock by way of some kind of hardware. If that was the case, it could be folded in half and your minimum length would then be 13.5".

Can fold in half anyway. However this would be easier to adjust while folded.

Like us I'm assuming he's using them to lift pole pots or better known as transformers to be mounted on utility poles
