    Time for a new Tarp?

    Hello everyone,

I'd like to first state that I do plan on buying a Warbonnet Thunderfly / Superfly this year regardless of the advice I get in this post, but on to my main question...

I've had this Hennessy Backpacker asym for years now, long before I was using 12ft hammocks and ridgelines... In the past when I used it, I never had a problem with weather, but since I switched to using continuous loops + 12ft hammocks / 11ft ridgelines, more technical suspension systems and the like, I've noticed that if I set up the tarp as I would in inclimate weather the tarp doesn't seem to cut it - I would be afraid of rain dripping down my continuous loop and soaking my hammock, or worse, soaking the down in my UQ!

I haven't had to use the tarp in any serious weather yet, and it's only been a just in case set up, but I do plan on hanging in more inclimate weather this year. I know I need (and want, hahaha) a new tarp, but would I still be able to use this tarp as one that I lend out to a friend with a similar suspension and hammock length? Or are these tarps really geared specifically towards Hennessy's own hammocks?

    Thanks all,

    Oquirrh

Are you using a drip line and still getting wet?

I've not installed one yet, the only reason being that I had intended to use the Beetle Buckle line as one. I suppose when it comes down to rainy weather I will have to wrap one on there! Like I said, I haven't used the tarp in very rainy conditions yet, so I'm not sure how it will work out with this set up... Getting the right tarp setup is something I'd like to get right without learning the hard way, but that might just be what has to happen.

You only need a simple string (like a shoelace) for a drip line.

If you are going for a Superfly anyway then here's a great deal on one in the for sale forum.

Not sure why your are concerned about your tarp ridge line bring water to the hammock unless you are running the ridge line under the hammock. You will find many posts that discuss the over/under philosophy. I usually run the line over the tarp unless it is winter and I expect a snowfall or perhaps hitched up to trees that look like they have a snow load above. You can use the drip lines styles mentioned above, but if the suspension connection stops that the tarp d-rings - which are beyond the hammock ends - it shouldn't jump to your hammock. I mean the wind can blow it there. But that's why you set up parallel to the wind direction, use doors, etc.
