Cuben Fiber Tarp owners...regrets on size? Or just right?

    Considering the HG Palace.....
My research leads me to believe that most would go Palace if they had it to do over agane.

    Yay or nay?

My first CF tarp was the HG standard. While the doors were great, the side coverage was inadequate. I got wet any time there was shifting wind. I traded in the Standard for a Winter Palace, and haven't gotten wet since.

I'm happy with my Cuben hex 11' maybe would go with a 12' if I could do over again but maybe not. I have a 12' old man winter with pole mod. It rocks. I guess I figured there's no one to rule them all like bilbos ring. But I can see where your going. I guess I wanted full coverage first and that for me was a 12 foot ridgeline with doors and interior Pole modification. I got the old man winter. Then I guess I wanted something really small on the other side of the spectrum so I got an 11 foot ridge line X Cuban tarp and that weighs a half it was like 5 ounces and the old man winter with all the things waste about 2 pounds so I guess I want of the full coverage first and then the light lightweight set up secondary and then I got one in between two but if you want to get one to do a mall I think you're right to get that winter palace because that is kind of light and full coverage. It is the closest to bilbos ring I imagine. If you want one to rule them all. It's a good way to be. It's all good, look for the good part in whatever set up you find yourself with. They all have killer aspects to them IMO.

    +1 to Mr. Surfer's experience.

If you camp where wind doesn't blow hard, you don't need the Palace.

If you backpack the bulk of the winter palace is something to consider as well. It may be light but it doesn't pack down very small.

This is exactly why I asked the question.

I find myself going down the same road.

I'm in a Blackbird XLC and am thinking for less than a pound more, I could get a bunch more coverage during those thunderstorms.

Correct, Sir! It does pack bigger than I like.

After purchasing the HG standard, I experienced some "did I make a mistake?" after reading the opinions of some well informed hangers. That being said, I have yet to experience any problems with the standard size.

When rain is coming, I do make a point of pitching the hammock high and tight with respect to the tarp. No regrets about the HG standard sized.
