I was just talking with Dancer. She and I have decided to hike in to Trail Days SOBO from Wise Shelter, starting Wednesday 12 May. Anyone interested in joining us?

Genuine Draft and I are good to go from either direction. Wise to Damascus is a very easy section. I don't think anybody will have any problems.

How many miles is that?
I need to get out and do at least one hike this year. If I have to do it all at once, that's fine, but I don't want to hold people up because I'm slower than them.

From Wise shelter SOBO to Damascus is 33.1 very nice, easy miles, no PUDS/MUDS. The elevation profile is available here for your review. Don't sweat being slow, I'm not a mile monster by any stretch of the imagination. Dancer and I both take it easy and just enjoy the hike instead of being concerned with making fast miles.

So that's about a 3 day trip then?

My wife says we she doesn't care if we celebrate our anniversary on the exact date or not. Hmmmm...
I'll have to see what the work schedule looks like for 2nd quarter. Might be a bit busy.

Ja, hai, si, ndiyo, da, etc. Yes, we're planning on 3 days for it. We're hoping to start hiking at a fairly early hour from Wise on Wednesday and make it to Damascus around lunchtime or a little later on Friday. Sure would be nice to have a burger and a beer at Dot's or Fattie's for lunch when we get in.

well I'll throw my hat in tentatively. If a good 3 or 4 day hike comes up that's a bit closer, I'll opt for that one instead. Otherwise, I'll do my dangdest to join you and dancer and cannibal...

Will Fri. afternoon be ok for getting a decent spot to hang? Either way it all sounds fine to me.
Life is never static, always dynamic.
The stars might have just lined-up for Genuine Draft. During a conversation we were having, she made an off-hand remark about doing an AT Thru. Never occured to me before, but this year would be the year for her to do it.
1. She's been unemployed since November and is having a heck of a time finding a replacement job.
2. We have puhlenty of gear, so very little upfront costs.
3. I can actually save money by her not being at home. Men and women have totally different concepts of what is a "need" and what is a "want".
4. She has somebody at home that has "been there and done that" so logistics will be simplified.
5. Plus, she is the girlfriend of Cannibal. Who's gonna mess with her?
Anyway, she's thinking about it. If she decides to do it, it may impact my/our plans for Trail Days. Particularly the hike portion. If she does it, she will probably be putting boot to Trail around April 1. We'll need to make a decision in the very near future to get everything squared-away, so I should know more in the next couple of weeks. I'll keep ya posted!
I hope my baby does it! She could use a mental pick-me-up and the AT is such a wonderful place to find it in yourself. Anybody thinking of heading out around the same time, please don't hesitate to contact me. I know she would take comfort knowing somebody out there, especially at the beginning.
Trust nobody!
