Had a nice hang this afternoon in Brooklyn NY's Prospect Park. Lots of great spots to choose from, needed to try out some new gear before a 4-day trip next week.
Few months ago, my 3-year-old Dutchware 11' 1.0 NylonD hammock suffered a nasty tear. I emailed Dutch and he was very gracious about it, helped me into a double layer 1.6 Hexon, dual kotty mod. I also switched my suspension from cinch buckles to whoopie slings and Dutch Buckles. Gotta say, the NylonD was very soft, but I really love this Hexon. Just feels comfortable. The knotty mod is a nice touch as well. I like the structure it gives to the edges of the hammock.
I also ordered a 12' Hammock Gear Quest tarp to replace my Hennessy 70D Hex. The Hennessy is a great tarp, but a little bulky and heavy, I have realized. I outfitted the Quest with 8" shock chord leads, connecting to Dutch's dyneema guyline cord with some plastic lineloc tensioners. I use Nite Ize Figure 9's for the end tieouts, with some heavier-duty 2mm ZLine from ZPacks. Makes for very quick setup, easy adjustments. In the pics you can see I have some OWL tarp skins, but I think I'm not going to use them for this tarp. The Xenon fabric is very slippery and just kind of falls out of the skins - not very secure.
To round out the experience, I got a nice blast from a NYC Parks vehicle saying "YOU MUST DISCONNECT THE HAMMOCK FROM THE TREES." Was ok, already got my hang in for the day .
