    Now, here's a harder question to answer: why does my local big-box fabric store not carry more than one or two kinds of needles? > All that space and you'd think they could spare some for actual sewing supplies... it's mostly pre-made "decorative" junk.

    I guess the revenue per square foot is higher for fake flowers and cinnamon-scented pinecones. It drives me nuts.

    So for general hammock and tarp sewing what style of needle is used? I here some say the sharps and some say ball point.

    I've used all 3 types. I am not sure if I have a preference. A Universal needle is a good place to start.
