Just getting into Hammock Camping Need Recommendations for Hammoce

I have heard that Hammock camping is a better experience that regular tent camping. I am a large man, I am talking 400+ pounds, built like a football player, what kind of Hammock would you guys and gals recommend for me to start off with? I am looking at several different ones, but dont want to invest 200 dollars for something I will probably use once or twice if it isnt something I dont enjoy. So give me some cost effective Hammocks for a large man. Thanks for any information.

Welcome from alabama. I would probably go with a double layer hammock made from hexon from http://www.dutchwaregear.com/11-ft.-...mmocks-en.html

Yea but that's over the $200 he said he didn't want to spend on a hammock to see if he would like it or not.
You can get a double layer from Dutch with everything you need (suspension and ridgeline) for around $119 plus shipping and be well under the $200 mark.

Welcome to Hammock Forums. Below is the advise I give most new folks getting started. If you check out the SE folder there are some hangs upcoming in the NC area.

My best advise for you is:

    1) Read all the sticky posts at the top of each section here at Hammock Forums. You will find all of your questions answered plus questions you have not thought of yet.

    2) Go to You Tube and watch all of Shug's videos. He will also answer all your questions but make you laugh. Leave lots of times to watch these

    3) Google The Ultimate Hang and read Derek's The Ultimate Hang pages. He does a great of explaining things you did not even know you needed to know. He also does great diagrams so it's easy to understand.

    4) Attend a Hammock Forum group hang before you invest any addition $ in your gear. There folks will show you and let you check out their gear so you can make educated decisions based on your own comfort levels

    5) Lastly NEVER take any gear to the field that you have not completely tested in controlled conditions such as your back yard in the temps/environment you expect to encounter in the field. A set up that suits one person will mostly likely not suit another so don't assume that just because I like/can be comfortable with a specific piece of gear that you will. Really. We are all very different when it comes to hammocks and what works/what does not work.

Cedar Ridge Outdoors specializes in supplying hammocks and equipment for big people. https://cedarridgegear.com/

You should give them a look, and get in touch with Warren. He's a big guy as well and can answer your questions about hanging as a larger hanger.

Welcome to the forums from Marietta GA, good luck and happy hanging!

Welcome to Hammock Forums. Keep in mind if you purchase a high quality and in-demand hammock to test with your ability to resell it here for a little loss is reason enough to try our some of the higher quality hammocks. Let us know if you have any specific questions and Debs advice is solid. Some of Shugs videos should help you understand hammocks and the styles and options you may like.

Thanks for that info, but the site there says up to 250 pounds, I would blow it out in one sitting, thanks. The largest one that warbonnet has is up to 350. Thanks
