Sorry but I just saw this. You gotta admit the timing on this is perfect! February 23! I just hope the last sentence ends up being wrong.
the temps i am seeing are what we have right now there is supposed to be a big warm up just before then drop back down.
welcome to planet earth no one gets out alive
I've looked at a couple of the extended forecasts and it looks like there should be a good cool down for our weekend. Daytimes in the mid 20s and lows of 11, which I'm happy with.
I got some intel from Donk67 whose out there this weekend: it's damp with about 8 inches of snow in the backcountry...unfortunately, we have logging activity again on our main trail coming in and according to don "the trail sucks". It is what it is. That being said, with the warmer temps and freeze and thaw cycle, cleats or overshoes with spikes and trekking poles are recommended. Last year we had a good hike in but coming out it was a sheet of ice. We don't grant anyone to get hurt, so plan accordingly.
Some other housekeeping: alternative parking is arranged if needed ( see earlier posts), water is plentiful along with wood ( just may be a little longer walk to get to the good stuff). Food: post what your bringing on the spreadsheet and make sure to bring your bacon. If you brought Dutch ovens, cast iron frying pans, camp grill last year, bring them again...
We are less than two weeks away from this years outing! Let the packing commence.....

Thanks for the update Dave. Good thing we're not going next weekend! Mid 40s and sunny for days surrounded by more days of 30s and not even below freezing for lows.
Definitely not going to bring half my real cold gear I wanted to mess with. Oh well, lighter pulk and less bulk.
Bad news - I've got a bad cold that just hit me last night. Good news, I'm pretty sure that gets it out of the way for the trip
I sure hope I can get a close parking spot...knee isn't doing so great. But they're slicing me open soon to fix that.
looks like its going to be a great time, can't wait. next Saturday im going to try coming in from Prickle lake state park, when i was out at the lower cabin a couple weeks ago there had be a couple snow machines in there that came in from that way. If I can walk the lake shore and find their trail I'll let you know what it looks like.

I'll be there around 1-2 on Thursday with my nephew and maybe my brother. Is anyone else going to be there about that time? Maybe we can meet up drop gear and spot a vehicles.
loggers were in there again. Hopefully it was a one time deal as they don't have any equipment staged and it looks like they retrieved a stockpile from last year's harvest.

Thanks Don. Sloppy mess! Hopefully that was frozen mud. Got a nice fresh snow this afternoon.
