I'll enter a vote for the standard figure eight wrap. I use the same CRL as Dutch sells, with a hook, wasp and two mini-ucrs in the middle.. it never tangles. I unwrap the end and wrap and hook around the anchor tree, throw the hank of coiled line at the second tree and watch it unwind.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I had this issue a bit too. Putting the tarp in snake skins with the pockets helped me a lot.

This is exactly what I do. I also use the dutch hook itself to finish the wrap to keep it from unraveling.

One question, are you using UCRs to tension the tarp? That's genius. Do you have any slippage issues?

Hmm sorry to hear about the frustration. I have a dutch CRL (awesome BTW) and I just leave it attached to my tarp. Then the tarp goes in the snakeskin and end of each CRL into the end pockets. No tangles. Ever.
“The word hammockable (Meaning: two trees that are the perfect distance apart between which a hammock can be hung) is not in the dictionary, but it should be.”
