The build is a sewn channel, gathered end hammock with my version of the stretch side Knotty Mod.
I cut the fabric to a raw length of 12 feet. I sewed a 1/2" rolled hem on the sides but skip a 1/2" spot 24 and 48 inches from the head end and the same for the foot end. I did this on both sides. This creates an access point to run my 26" piece of shock cord in the seam. I add the micro cord locks on each end of the shock cord to allow for adjustability and as an anchor.
I fold over the ends 4 inches and fold that again to create a 2 inch channel. I then triple stitch that channel allowing for approximately 1 1/4" finished channel.
I thread a 24" piece of polyester webbing through a cinch buckle and sew it into a loop. I thread the webbing loop through the end channel and Lark's Head it onto itself.
The remainder of the webbing is cut in two and sewn into (2) 12' tree straps with a 2" loop sewn into one end.

I love the fabric! It has a firm feel and minimal stretch and with me being in the 250 lb range, I feel very comfortable and extremely secure. Even though this is somewhat a heavier fabric, it maintains very good breathability.
The added width is perfect for a good diagonal lay (I am 6' 1").
I am very happy with the way this hammock turned out!
I would highly recommend this fabric to anyone who is in the mid to upper 200 lb weight range or to anyone who is looking for a durable low stretch material.

Super cool. Nice work. It looks heavy duty. Take a shot of the full hammock.

Thanks for posting! I am weighing fabric options for a DIY build, myself. Hex70 is on my short list. Nice to see a fellow Louisianian on the forums!

Looks great! I've been eyeing that Hex70 XL. I like the idea of a hammock that wide without seams.

    Thanks Koolranch!
I attached a full picture. It looks (and is) heavy duty but I love being able to go with one layer. I just now got my wife out of it so I could give it a tryout. I have hammocks that I have made out of 1.9 oz, 1.6 oz, 1.6 oz XL and now 2.2 oz HEX70 XL. I like them all as each has a different feel. And while I like the added width, I am also happy with the regular 60" width as well. I think the 11' length is one of the biggest factors as it relates to comfort.

    Hey troyji,
I read your earlier post and welcome to the forums. I emailed Kyle at RSBTR and asked him if he had a weight rating on the 2.2 oz HEX70 XL. He said 400 lbs for sure but felt like it could hold much more. He said he will try to do a weight test in the future.
On another note, there is usually a Louisiana group hang in November. I am going to try to make this one. Hope to see you there!

    Thanks Scraprider7!
Yes, I am not of fan of seams in the hammock body either. I have also found that my 11' hammocks with the normal 60" width are easy to get the diagonal lay in as well. Kyle at Ripstop By The Roll has some great fabrics and products and outstanding customer service!

Nice work. I am waiting for some stuff from Dutch and I'll be making my own.
I would rather be in the woods... my dog would rather be in the pool. My wife thinks we are both nuts.
