Survival blanket/ emergency blanket material for a rain fly

Hi everyone I made a tent based on the model design of a big agnes fly creek UL2 and when I made the rain fly for it I was not very happy.
So now I am on the verge of remaking it with some cuben fiber but I started to think about other possible ways to make it

Then I thought of those reflective wraps that they sell for like 8 dollars as a survival blanket that are supposed to be waterproof .

Any one have any thoughts on if this would work as a rain fly on extended hikes? I have some of the material but I never really worked with it before it seems to me that I could glue or tape any seams and it would be really lightweight and waterproof. Fragile though

    appreciate constructive comments

They'll work fine till a butterfly passes gas, and the force of the explosion will shred it.

Mylar has no tear resistance at all. Don't try using it for a tarp.

Why would you attach it to silnylon, and in what way? As you said, it's very fragile.

I have had bad luck with the waterproofness of silnylon maybe the stuff I got was low quality or something so I want something better whether it be cuben fiber or ...?? I saw some people glue space blankets to a tarp but I think they mostly wanted the reflected heat. I just thought if the space blanket alone is too fragile then maybe I could get some super lightweight cheap ripstop and add mylar space blanket to it which would be the waterproof layer

Ive also been reading the forums where the hydrostatic head was tested on several products including mylar and the HH was like 3500 compared to used silnylon which was at about 600. Ill be hiking on the PCT and I dont trust the rainy days in washington

For the PCT you should want it all. Strength, Superior protection against the weather, Packability.

You won't find all three via any discount method. Probably only CF currently fills that bill. Especially for extended, long distance, weight conscious hikers. atm.
