    Japanese hang

    Hello everyone,

First, I just want to say I am relatively new to hammock camping, so please bare with me.

I was wondering and incidentally pitching the idea of a summer hang for all hangers living/visiting Japan, but more specifically the Kanto area (although I wouldn’t be closed to the idea of meeting around the Yamanashi/Shizuoka/Aichi area if it means more people would be able to attend).

At this point, this is in the pre-alpha phase, so I’m just gauging interest, if there is any, and spitballing locations and a tentative date.

I look forward to seeing how much interest this gets.

Is hammock camping popular in Japan as it is in the USA, or do most Japanese outdoor enthusiasts prefer tents and RVs?

It is slowly gaining popularity, but it is still a blimp on the radar at the moment. At least as far as I can tell.

People mostly camp in tents and rented cottages though, and I don’t think I have ever seen an RV on my camping trips around Tokyo. I’m sure some people do, I just haven’t seen them.

Pending tons of conditions, caveats and repercussions at home: I might be able to do a weekend of July 21/22 or possibly June 30/Jul 1? I already have a trip planned with my daughter in June and then summer holiday in Aug.

June 30th/July 1st would be best for me, but July 21st/22nd could also work. I’m guessing closer to Tokyo would be better for you?

There would be lots of conditions attached to the weekend of July 30 that won't be known until a few weeks beforehand.
I'm ok places around Tokyo as well: Yamanashi, Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba.

In that case, would July guarantee your appearance? If so, then I can move some things around.

alt.thomas thanks for the heads up on this!
I am interested! I live in Yokohama so those locations would work for me.
    Best Regards,

Perfect, so let’s make it the weekend of July 21/22. As for location, I am open for suggestions. We could do Okutama or that place in Yamanashi on the Chuo line, I believe the station was Yanagawa?

The place near Yanagawa is nice, relatively cheap and the care taker was very chill.
I need to prepare for an upcoming trip with my daughter this weekend but will give the site a call next week to see if they are available.
