This question begs the answer... why not?
Not sure I like the dust in my hammock, but give them a test shake, or put them in a sock.
Please don't burn them. You carried them in, please carry them out.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

This past weekend I did 2 nights in Wayne NF. at temperatures of 17F and 23F overnight. I throw one in each clean dry wool sock that I put on at night. They keep the toes warm all night. If super cold I have place them in my gloves and I have sleeping beanie that has a small pocket for one if needed.
I have no problem burning them with my finished oatmeal packets or other paper products, as HotHands only contain; iron powder, water, salt, activated charcoal and vermiculite. Non of these are pollutants.
I put hand warmers in my socks at night. I put a pair of socks on, then I put a second pair on that are quite big, with the handwarmers in between. This keeps me toasty all night.
They get too hot to not have the protection of the inner socks. Make sure the outer pair are loose, or use your booties.
I also sleep in mittens and put hand warmers inside. They get too hot so I end up taking them off, but I think I might make a little fleece pocket for them so that I am still protected from the heat.
I like toe warmers when I am actually wearing shoes. They don’t last as long as hand warmers, which is why I use the hand warmers the way I do.
Good luck.

I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.
Thanks HF!
I watched this guys youtube video and despite his failure to test a product in some resemblance of a scientific method I still was unsure of the ability of these warmers to do the job. HF posters with the most-er came through. I'll definitly be bringing them along this winter.

Been using these for many years- both in my hammock and out. Never had a packet leak though. They do get really hot-put the packet in a hat, sock, purpose-made fleece bag- if you're going to sleep with it. I write the purchase date on the outer package with a Sharpie so I can use the oldest ones first.
I always take some with me just in case They do last through the night. I have not had them leak. You don’t have to use them where they recommend I.e glove in glove, etc. I find they are most effective under my waisteband because heating the core helps heat hands and feet. Just One really makes a big difference.

The reusable ones are only hot for an hour or so. it takes a good 15 minute boil to rejuvinate them and they have to cool before you can click the disk to activate them. so from boil to click and then to post click cool down you get maybe two hours of heat.
I personally prefer the Jon-e style handwarmers that use the zippo lighter flluid or naptha. Zippo is producing them now and they're in walmart for a very fair price. If you're not familiar with them they are small catalytic heater that fits in your pocket.
