    Lightbulb UCR Prusik substitute

    Hi everyone,
I’m new to this forum and this is my first post so I wanted to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone here and, at the risk of stating the obvious, this site has been a treasure trove of knowledge for me and I would never have been able to understand all the subtilities of hammock camping without it, and it’s member’s YouTube videos (shout out to Shug, Dutch & redoleary4 amongst many others). So, thank you very much once again!!! 😊
And I thought since I came up with a small mod that seemed useful, I’d add my grain of salt, for starters to get you guy’s feedback, and maybe even to share a half decent idea… So here goes:
It’s a variation on the conventional UCR setup: I made an adjustable ridgeline for my beach hammock, and instead of adding a Prusik as usual to secure the free end of the UCR, I buried the main line into half of the free loop of the constrictor part of the UCR, giving it roughly the same hold as the Prusik (when milked), but with no extra cordage. Here I had a 3" loop, so 3" bury; way below specs, but again, it's only doing the Prusik's job and not load bearing at all, and you could always make the loop on the constrictor bigger to get a longer bury in. Plus, it's the ridgeline...
I’ll attach pics here and I uploaded a short video to YouTube:

Take care & keep elevating 😉

Nice idea. Looks better than a prussic plus it has a handle too.

Interesting. I wonder how well it'll hold structurally. I had to go back to whoopies as the UCR continually slipped on me. Though that is another thread. Do like the idea very elegant.

Thanks. As far as the hold goes, I haven't had any problem so far, but then again I did use 7/64 Amsteel for both the main line and the constrictor, plus it's a ridgeline, so a lot less stress... My plan B was to increase the bury length if necessary, either in the UCR or in the "Prusik substitute" - or both - but as I said, so far so good

Geeking out with splicing since I started DIY'ing this week. Have some amsteel left over and have decided to make UCR's instead of whoopies.

Have you compared this to the fixed eye/prussik termination? Do you have a preference? are they both equally easy to adjust? any notable slippage?

I may make a set of each, but im leaning towards this over a prussik as i'll be using the same diameter rope.
