Yup, what Dvankirk says..... I've got the snaps on my UGQ Winter Dream.... work great.... as for getting the pitch/spacing right for snaps and doors to be how you want them a) you get the 'feel' really quick and b) I also have the internal pole mods... adjusting the poles, stake out tension, quickly adjusts the doors as well.

If I am going for beak mode with the doors, I'll hang the tarp, then connect the doors... stake out the doors first and then the ground corners.

If I am going for overlapped doors, it still helps to have the doors connected first.

I don't use snaps.. I just overlap (or use the ZPacks double door hook). However, the HG Palace is cut odd and overlapping is really tough. I have loop and toggle in the middle of the door hem, but that doesn't work so well either.

Are snaps secure enough to allow you to stake only one door and rely on that to hold the second snapped door closed? That would eliminate having to step over guy lines on the doors.
Yes, my pack weighs 70lbs, but it's all light weight gear....

I’ve been fine just overlapping on my 20D silpoly Superfly. I e considered snaps, but it just seems like one more possible failure point. Especially when trying to unsnap in sub-freezing weather.

To be fair, I haven’t heard of anyone having a tarp rip due to snaps, those are the stories I want to hear before adding them.

Just yesterday I added snaps to my Hammock Gear Dyneema Palace. I put 3 on each door. Ive been wanting snaps since I first heard about UGQ tarps. I have a UGQ Winter Dream XL on order but I decided to go ahead and put them on my dyneem tarp too.

Curious why you chose to add the grosgrain. It doesn't look to be sewn on. How does it help? I would have put a patch of DCF tape on and then the snap through the tape.

Help me understand as might do this...

Ooh, I like the idea of the tape, I didn’t even notice the grosgrain.

That give me an idea for my Superfly. Maybe sew on a small reinforcement patch then add the snap. Or even grosgrain with extra length to act as a pull tab.

I hear there is a new repair tape specific to sil impreg fabric. You could use that, doubled over itself while wrapping around the hem, creating the tab you're looking for. You could also bond the reinforcement patch on.. and avoid sewing and seam sealing.

Are those Kam snaps? They look bigger, and maybe metal.

If you're referring to the snaps on my Dyneema tarp, It is 2.92 oz dyneema. The bottom layer of the fabric is dyneema while the top layer is woven fabric. It looks like grosgrain in the pic though. Its basically a bombproof dyneema. I glued it on to allow for a little extra strength under the KamSnap. I tested it without the extra thickness under the KamSnap and I just didn't trust it. It feels much stronger with the additional support under the snap. Below is a closeup picture of it. I use it as my ground mat as it is resistant to my 117 lb Rhodesian Ridgebacks claws. Its tough stuff.

They are K5 KamSnaps. The head is 1/2" if I remember correctly.
