    Just a note of interest.
Observing our "BSIH" (Brothers & Sisters In Hammocks) plan & carry out the "Spring MAHHA at Pine Grove Furnace State Park" will be an excellent opportunity to learn & gather ideas for making the Grayson County Fall Festival hammock education event a success.

One important note here... I believe the group site is going to be limited to 35 people. I'll plan to talk to the rangers so we'll know our limitations should we grow into that large of a group.
You know Slowhike when we camped with 50 in Ocala National Forest for the First Annual Florida Hang the site was only designed to hold 50 campers. We had that many and there was still plenty of space left. I think those limits are set with tents in mind.

That said, I don't want to violate any rules or upset the rangers.

Just make sure to save a few trees for Timberrr and me!

Even if there is a clear cut off point of 35 people in the group site & we have more hammockers than that attending, I'll bet there would be a few hammockers that would be willing (glad even) to backpack it in a mile or two down the trail.
    But we'll make it work

Really looking forward to this trip! Unfortunately, Allegiant Air no longer flies out of Orlando so I guess Timberrr and I will be driving up from Florida. Thank goodness gas prices are finally beginning to drop.

We will drive in (since all our packs are deckpacks not backpacks), but I would be up for a nice day hike once we get settled in. It will be great to see you again ldcakes!

    OK, 2 months to go!
Might be a good idea to get a better idea on who's coming & iron out a few details.
I'll plan to call GHSP tomorrow w/ a few questions.

As talked about in this thread's 1st post, we are panning to take this opportunity to display hammocks, tarps, etc in a wooded area at the festival.
I believe we will be in a fairly high traffic area, so hopefully we can learn from past experiences, including learning all we can from those that planned & took part in the hammock demonstrations that took place at the 2011 Spring MAHHA (Mid-Atlantic Hammock Hangers Association).

One thing different from the MAHHA event is that we will not be camping near the hammock demonstration area.
The demonstration & Fall Festival is about a 5 minute car drive from the campground, so we will need to take set up & tear down into consideration as well as those that may be willing to demonstrate some aspect of hammocking. It may be good to have support people that can relive demonstrators & bring them food & drink.

Ok folks. Here is the tentative list of attendees so far. IF your name appears and you see a (?), it means I was not certain you can fully commit at this point. I will update listing as new folks respond. There will be other updates after we decide about meal planning and support for a hammock display area, as per Slowhike's previous posting. Hoping to see all of you, plus others. We should have room for about 35 folks ??????? We will figure a way for more if needed.

    Attendees:
    Slowhike
    Rockdawg69
    Gumbo
    Idcakes
    Timberrr
    Home Run(?)
    Ewker/Hamhocker (2?)
    bonsaihiker (?)
    NC Patrick (?)
    Ladybird - 4
    Running Feather (?)
