    pvc pipe stand

I want a light weight stand that you can take down and carry and is easy to put together. I am convinced there must be a way to do this with pvc pipe. Has anyone come across anything? My gears are turning and I'd like to figure one out for the summer.

Pvc bends too easily but if you make it work then please do share how you did it. .

Ok, here's what is kind of floating in my head. It's a rough image I painted up. Obviously the black is the pvc pipe. Can we strengthen by adding diagonal cross bars?

Seems like you would also need another horizontal and vertical PVC supports in the middle to help with the top pipe sagging under weight.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

    Exclamation

ive worked with pvc pipe for about 13 years and imho its not strong enough? I would hate to hear it broke sending a sharp edge of pipe your way. If you were to go as big as say 3" it might work but the weight would add up quick. I think you could build a metal 1 that would me heavier but alot smaller and stronger. if you get it to work I would love to see it, and dont let me discourage you I just think it could be dangerous and dont want anyone getting hurt

This seems like you're trying to make the materials fit the job, rather than finding the right materials to do the job.

Suggest looking up the recent Handy Hammock Stand threads, along with TurtleDog stands. Those have been the lowest-bulk/weight approaches that have been proven so far. Perhaps they could serve as inspiration for a future design or alternate material.

I've seen PVC stands that work, but the designs i've looked at are typically glued together for strength, so they wouldn't be as portable as it sounds like you want. It would be a big challenge to design something with press fit connections strong enough to be safe.

I have a Turtle Dog stand, but am not really satisfied with the weight of it. I think I like the Handy Hammock in theory, but it's rope system looks a little more complicated than I'd like.

The weight of what you have drawn for PVC would be more than a turtledog/lady stand and still need more added to it.

You might look at the Alamosa Stand.

    Thumbs up Trellis frame

Trellis framing is the only way to get the strength needed from pvc in a design that can break down.
The image is just an example of trellis framing not a hammock stand
