Consider that all these other options also have a price tag and potential for unanticipated problems.

By the time you kludge together a stop-gap collection of other bits and pieces that might or might not work, you could potentially end up having spent just a few dollars shy of a 'proper' UQ.

Also true. A 20* econ Incubator could probably fix most of my issues. I also see the benefit in having gear that can be used in tandem so I can add or subtract pieces as necessary.

Depends on how important a couple of ounces are to you and how often you get in/out, I think.

Me? I opted for the zipper...

I've been surprised at how helpful two newer items (new to me) have been for my experience winter camping in a hammock: an underquilt protector (152 g), and a 10 degree merino wool liner (493 g). Adds 23 ounces in total but really makes a difference for me.

There has been discussion elsewhere in this forum about condensation forming on the inside of UQPs made of more air-tight fabric. Lots of favorable comments on 10D Ripstop. Based on those discussions, I recently ordered a HammockGear UQP in 10D Ripstop Nylon. The fact that it's a few ounces lighter made absolutely no effect on my decision.

I'll let ya'll know what I find out.
