I’m In the less is more crowd as well. Just enough to keep the dirt, grime, and body oils off my hammock and quilts.
Winter I typically wear silk thermals. Summer and shoulder I’ll wear a t-shirt and shorts. For hotter weather I’ll use a lightweight liner to keep sweat out of my quilt. I normally hate wearing socks when I sleep, but I keep an extra pair just for sleeping, again mainly to keep as much dirt as possible out of my quilt and hammock.

What clothing do you wear when you sleep in your hammock in the woods

I wear an Exoffico brief or 32d base layer tops and bottoms from Costco. When it's colder I wear Terramar poly/wool tops and bottoms. Really cold, a down sweater and pants. On top are a beanie, down cap or fleece balaclava. At the bottom are wool socks or down booties.

Cotton t shirt and briefs in warmer temps. Fleece pull over, Fleece pajama bottoms, alpaca wool socks, and a beanie in the colder temps.

I am minimalistic in sleepwear. I use my antique Durofold (one layer cotton, one layer Merino Wool) when it is cold.

For me my TQ & UQ keep me toasty comfortable down to very cold. The catch is the early a.m. potty break. I do not want to exit to get frost bite getting into something appropriate to the cold to make the potty trip.

Summer (above 45F) is clean shorts & top
Winter (45 to 20F)is clean fleece top, fleece pants, Alpaca socks (loose fitting) & fleece beanie
Too cold winter (20 to 0F) fleece above with heavy silk top, bottom under the fleece, alpaca beanie, and ski mask.

I have yet to be out in temps under 0 F. Since I base camp instead of hiking it is easy for me to have additional cold weather gear available. Anything below 45F requires a hot water bottle.

I totally agree with this. For winter trips or cold weather trips: boxer shorts/clean wicking tee/fleece hat/socks maybe, but I may toss on a fleece pullover and longjohns if I feel chilly. Summer and warm weather trips: boxers and sleep t-shirt that I always use to hike out on my last day. I sleep pretty warm but when it's cold I sometimes toss in my down vest and use it to add warmth where needed.

There's no right or wrong to the OP's question. Do what works for you to keep yourself comfortable.

Down to 40F I wear a t-shirt, underwear and a pair of loose fitting socks. Below 40F would be the same thing because I'd be in my house.

Those of us men past a certain age, need potty breaks during the night, therefore appropriate clothing. You young folks enjoy it while you can, LOL.

I actually pack pajamas. Long sleeve for colder weather and short sleeve for warm weather. Clean wool soxs and a balaclava for cold nights. I use down slippers for the night waters.
