A nice weekend out in the woods with some excellent food. Many thanks to njredneck and silentorpheus for their efforts, and all the others who helped. It was great seeing old friends and meeting some new ones. Friday night got down to 23* F, though the Weather Channel said the low would be 37. I should have brought my 0* quilts instead of my 20* quilts! Saturday only got down to 29* F, so I was much warmer.
Fallkniven brought his cornhole, throwing knives and ring toss, so the weekend wasn't all eating. Porkroll, P47-Chowhound and I even took a four-mile hike on Saturday! Some folks brought their dogs, so we had canine companionship. NJredneck brought his military tent with wood stove, so chilly folks could warm up in there. There were stories to be told, new as well as recycled. Ratdog could not find any fences to climb, so the po-po kept their distance.
Looking forward to the 7th Annual Thanksgiving Weekend Hang!

Brisket! Hammock Christmas Village pics didn't come out too well.
It was great to finally meet some folks from Hammockforums.net. I had a great time and am looking forward to more hangs in the future.

Plenty of sacrilege all around: Friday's pulled pork was cooked at home, then warmed up. Salsa verde was made at home, as was cole slaw and potato salad. Pasta was pre-cooked for mac-and-cheese. Booskerdoo coffee was ground at home, rather than on site. Bacon was pre-cooked, then wrapped around scallops before grilling. Oh, the injustice! A crime against all that is sacred!
But boy, was it good.

Thanks to everyone who was able to come out and hang with us for the 6th year of our Thanksgiving food fest!
I didn't get a lot of pictures, as much of my time was spent cooking and running around, but I know others were snapping photos, so hopefully they'll post up what the got.
Hawkins was a fun camp, and a nice change from our normal accommodations at either Batona or Mullica. We had a few last minute cancellations, but in the end we had around 15 or 16 people out for the weekend. Nighttime lows got down to the 20s both nights (Friday was colder, keeping with tradition) though daytime temps were reasonably mild and sometimes felt downright warm.
It was great to see much of the regular crew, and a few new (or newer) faces. I think I can safely say that no one left hungry, as we even walked away with food that we didn't get around to cooking since we had so much! In the end, we ate well, had great company, and I slept well both nights in the woods.
Thanks as always to everyone who helped organize and plan, NJR for all his help in the kitchen, and everyone who helped break down and lug everything back to the fences on Sunday. Looking forward to next year, as well as hopefully another event in the Spring.
This was my first Thanksgiving hang, and will definitely NOT be my last!
I had a great time!
There was plenty of food, and camaraderie.
It was great to see plenty of people I already know, and get to know some people I’ve seen but never talked to.
I hung in my revamped diy hammock, and I think I have it dialed in now!
I had a great hike with Silversurfer and P47 Chowhound.
Here are some of the pics I took:
