"De-core-ing" a braided rope?

there's a way to splice double braided into eyes and such.......might seem a little more complicated than simple hollow braided rope...but seems very strong and secure. This link is for the apparently thicker double braid ropes, but I've no doubt it can be done with smaller diameter cords.

Double braid and solid braid refer to different construction than kern mantle that he is talking about. 550 cord and most climbing ropes are kern mantle. Not sure why with 550 but with climbing rope the outside skin is for abrasion while the core is for strength and stretch control. The outside will usually stretch more than the inner core due to it's construction.
