Another version of the Aluminum Surplus Military Pole Stand

Out of respect for Turtle Lady and Turtle dog, I didn't want to clog up her bamboo thread any more with a similar stand but uses hardware instead of lashing, and it's aluminum poles that are taken down and fits into my Camry Trunk.

I took the hardware from Artjrk, and used it for the surplus Military Aluminum poles others were using.

The process I used to get there:

I drilled 5/16" holes 43 inches up from the bottom of the pole (The tops are inconsistent by up to 1/8" and measuring from them will result in differences) and drilled through the thickest part of the pole, where the aluminum tube is combined with the inserted aluminum.

2 - 4 1/2 inch 5/16 bolts
2 - 4" 5/16 eye bolts
6 - Standard Washers ( For the bolt that goes through the poles, 3 for each tripod ) Picture shows 4 but I used 6
4- Larger Pan washers (2 for each eyebolt )
4 - 5/15 Nylon Lock nuts ( locking the 4 1/2" bolt and the eye bolt for each stand )
2 - 5/16 standard nuts ( For each eye Bolt)
2 - 3/8 inch pieces cut from 1/2" PVC pipe

I cut the 3/8" piece of 1/2" pvc with wire cutters



Pressed it into the eyebolt:



Then used a torch to heat the nut and pressed it into the pvc pipe: (You can use a heat gun too)

I did also insert 3- 3/8 nuts and 2- 5/16 lock washers that float over the 5/16 bolt inside each pole, but just in case it started to collapse for some reason internally, I would have something to stop it. Don't know if it's necessary but I am a big boy and the more sturdy the better, but likely just a wasted effort. The stand seemed very sturdy.




I plan to make better hardware limiters that is basically some Amsteel with a triangle of nylon surrounding it for a shelf on each side.
