I have used a HH (scout) and a ENO doublenest for almost 10 years now. I am a firm believer in hammock camping both for the comfort over tent solutions and because it offers so many more options here in the NE where tenting is sometimes limited due to the geography. While more and more of my camping is less sensitive to weight (i.e. less backpacking), this is still a concern. With winter coming in, I am interested in getting feedback from others out there on your experiences and possibly find a better solution for me to use next season.
Heres what I have observed:
HH - PROS
- lightweight
- integrated netting
- trapezoidal design/ridgeline
HH - CONS
- limited chair and lounge modes
- difficult exterior access from inside
- access leads to dirty bag
- difficult positioning pad/bag
- ridgeline not adjustable
ENO - PROS
- easy conversion to lounge/chair modes
- easy access
- reliable pad/bag positioning
ENO - CONS
- combined component weight
- multiple components
- no ridgeline
Has anyone found another vendor that has addressed these already or should I consider building my own? I've read the discussions about building your own and am curious if others have found this successful in combining the PROs from these 2 styles or if the process and/or result made this option undesireable.
Thanks.
