Ideas on how to correctly hang

Hi! I'm new to the world of hammocks, and am attempting to do my first hammock on my own I followed knotty's gathered end hammock instructions that are stickied, and have the hammock completely made, and ordered in some polyester webbing (with loops sewn on the ends) for tree straps and have 30' of amsteel from diygearsupply.

Now, I'm a little stuck on how to get the thing hung! Well, I guess I'm more concerned with how to do it correctly. I have an idea to use the 30' of rope as one continuous piece, with the center portion tied to the ends of the hammock to use as a ridgeline, and then simply tie whatever amount I need to the tree straps. (Also, any advice on what type of knots should I use to tie the rope to the tree straps?)

Does this sound like a feasible plan? Or is this simply the ill-advised wanderings of my mind? Sometimes I get ideas in my head that sound like they will work, but don't, so I figured I'd ask the experts! Thanks for any help!
