Hello from Rochester NY! I'm new around here and committed to hammock life. Introduced to this world last summer with no name $20 hammock off from Amazon last summer, enjoyed some afternoons, went down some YouTube rabbit holes and I discovered how easy it can be to backpack camp with the proper gear (after decades of car camping). The kid has gotten older, I have more free weekends, time to be able to disappear into the woods - lots of places in the northeast. Lurked all fall/winter reading, searching, learning and went out for my first trip this past weekend with success. Easy to search and what not but it means something once one actually follows through.
Low was mid 50s overnight with a steady rain in the morning. Slept cozy, warm, and stayed dry! Somehow must've also paid attention to all the "beginner mistake" videos as my bag weight was 20 pounds. I expected my first time to be like 40 pounds. Now that I made it out into the woods for the first time it's just fine tuning setting things up (biggest challenge was tying down the rain fly). Time to follow Shugs advice from the three part series about tarps and spend a dorky day tarping and let others in a park mock me for it.
Great rainy morning view in porch. Failed to take a pic up close with quilts but I guess that means I was enjoying the day and night, not focused on documenting it. So many awesome threads here that go back years that helped. Love that some forums are still so active!
