Gearing up to make a new hammock and almost wish I hadn't read this thread, because now I may need to make several to test length comfort.
You can gain some flexibility being your existing tarp by adding a peak extension. I have used an inexpensive 6' x6' from Wise Owl (about $10)... And rig it at one end. Now I can get a 10' long tarp to adequately cover the suspension on both ends if an 11' hammock. You can either temporarily rig it, so that you don't bring it with a smaller hammock... Or permanently stitch/cement it on if you're using it all the time. Cheap fix.
They are real comfy. I have one for around the house use and am always surprised by it's level of feel-good~~
Don't take it backpacking though.

I just had a 12-footer Chameleon land on my porch. Took it out today and it's noticeably, grow-ticeably, glacial flow-ticeably snug.
Snug? As in, too tight?
