8th Annual Louisiana Group Hammock Hang
Indian Creek Recreation Area, Woodworth, LA
    Primitive Camp Area
    Feb 22-24, 2019

Plans for the 2019 Louisiana Spring Swing are finally coming together!

Click this link to go to the spreadsheet and sign in. It helps us keep a head count on who is coming and what food you’re bringing.

    Who's hanging?
Anyone and everyone, we don’t discriminate because you use a tent or because you reside in another state!

    What we hanging for?
The 8th Annual Louisiana Group Hang is a car camping, hammock hanging event. You can hike, fish, paddle or just hang out.
If you have a hammock camping related skill or setup to demonstrate to others, please let us know and we will schedule a session or two on Saturday. We are always learning so if you want to teach us something we will all be better for it! None of us are experts in all things and there are likely some very new to hammock camping that will benefit from your knowledge! Show us how to make a Whoopie Sling!

    When we hanging?
February 22nd – 24th, 2019 (Some of us will be arriving on the 21st, so feel free to come out early!)

    Where we hanging?
The same place we hung last year! Indian Creek Recreation Area, Woodworth, LA. in the Primitive Camp area.
You can find directions at the end of this post.

Here are a few links to find out more about the campground and area...

It is also on a reservoir, so bring kayaks, canoes, or boats if you want. There is a hiking trail there, and the Wild Azalea trail is nearby. There are stores nearby too, in case you need to replenish ice and beer supplies.

What is this going to cost me?
The cost last year ended up being 5$ per person which covered the group rate for 2 nights exactly. Last year some folks paid the individual camping fee of $14, but we will try to let the gate keeper know that we are a group and we will pay the group rate up front.

We will be doing a raffle again this year for the "Parade of Prizes"! Tickets are $1 per ticket so don't forget to bring some CA$H!
Donations for the raffle are always appreciated. All proceeds from the raffle go towards the overhead costs of the raffle prizes. The number and quality of prizes last year were simply unbelievable!
We usually have a “Trading” table. Feel free to bring items you wish to trade and get some useful items in exchange.

What should campers do about food?
Saturday we are planning to have smoked pulled pork and fresh sausage for our annual community feast. Everyone is encouraged to contribute a side dish to be shared. The raffle will begin immediately following dinner!
We will be flipping some pancakes and cooking some Dutch Oven Mountain Man Breakfast Saturday morning as well.

ALL OTHER MEALS ARE UP TO EACH INDIVIDUAL CAMPER!

How much food do we need to bring for Saturday if I choose to cook something for the community dinner?
Last year we had about 25 campers so a medium/large casserole type dish will usually allow most campers to have a sample of your masterpiece. Don't be afraid to show off your cooking skills. We have some super awesome cooks!
Dutch oven desserts/cobblers are always a treat!

    What about firewood?
It is always hard to find wood so plan on bringing as much as you would burn at your individual site over the weekend. A couple of logs to contribute to the communal fire pit is always appreciated. There are usually locals in the area that sell wood.

A few things to remember for those attending for the first time.
Come completely self-contained as you would on a car camping trip at home. Don’t forget a camp chair to sit around and hear some of the great stories to be told!
LNT - Leave NO Trace - Leave your campsite and the campground in general, cleaner that you found it! We all want to enjoy nature so keep it natural!

This campground is PRIMITIVE. There are no tent pads, or lantern hooks or tables!
There are a couple flush toilets with water spigots available. It’s a good hike away from the campsites so it’s best to just bring enough water with you for you and your guests for the entire weekend. Be sure to bring your own toilet tissue in case the bathroom doesn’t have any.

    Google Directions…
Follow I-49 to exit 73 (Woodworth) LA-3265 W/Robinson Bridge Rd.
Continue West on LA-3265 W/Robinson Bridge Rd. for approx. 3.5 miles.
Turn left onto Camp Ground Rd.
Follow to park entrance, approx 1.25 miles.
Take the 1st left after the gate and follow to the Primitive area.
There are several roads/branches in the camp area. Last year we were in the center branch (2nd left) after making a right turn at the 1st set of restrooms.
