I'm in the midst of a hammock suspension overhaul and thought I'd give UCRs a try. I made a couple using Tac Blade's UCR Tutorial. His instructions were clear and easy to follow, and I'm sure i did everything correctly. I was pleased with them when I was done.
Until... I tried to use them. I set up, eased myself into my hammock. Just about the time my full weight (240ish) settled in, zzzziiiipppp I hit the ground. Nothing broke, the constricting part of the head-end UCR just didn't hold. I tried it again making sure I "milked" the constrictors and even threw in a half hitch on the tag end but to no avail.
I've heard of people using prussiks to prevent slippage, but when Tac Blades first released his tutorial he seemed quite sure that prussiks weren't necessary. I can only assume he's not quite as heavy as me.
My guess is that I'm still just too heavy for them. Maybe when I get down around 200 or so I'll give them another shot.
Out of curiosity, are there any bigger guys out there using UCRs? If so, how did you make yours?
