It's time to get the 2020 season underway!
In the winter we like to stick closer to home than we will once the snow melts. Though we were going close to home, this was a place that we've never camped before. There was quite a bit more snow than we thought that there would be when we started out. With our packs loaded with winter gear and it being the first trip of the year, it was slow going through 3 feet of snow. Lucky for us, we ran into a snowmobile trail that was already cut in. Once we got on that it was easier to make time. We got in a ways and cut in away from the trail and over to creek.
We found and old stand of cedar to setup in and a nice wide open part of the bank to make our fire in. On the first night we had a couple steaks to cook up and for the second night we had some cheddar-jalapano sausages. Both were excellent!
It warmed up on us the second night and all of the snow in the trees started to fall out. So much snow was coming down that I was worried that my tarp wouldn't hold up to it. It was up to the challenge though, and other than getting woke up loads of snow hitting the tarp, it was a warm night.
Packing up the next morning, it was clear and warm. The problem was it meant that it was practically raining in the trees. My hands were numb by time I had my gear packed up. We hit the trail under sunny skies and had a nice hike out. It was a great start to the season!
As always, Thanks for checking it out!
