Dredging this thread up again since I had been messing with using whoopie sling ridge and tie-outs on my tarp.
I have lately been incorporating soft shackles, the type with the little pull tab to make for quick/easy use with cold hands wearing gloves.
The combination works well with whoopies, no knots, hardware or marlin spike hitches.
I can keep the soft shackle attached to the adjustable end of the whoopie so I don't have to worry about the end getting buried and the soft shackle can easily be released should the whoppie get accidentally cinched all the way up to the end.
I love the ease of adjustment this system provides. Quick and easy tear down and re-pitch.
I can pitch the tarp porch mode, but easily re-pitch steep and tight should I need the protection when a storm comes in the middle of the night.
I also get no tangles anymore. When packing up I just fold the lines in a half three or four times and tie them in a half hitch.
They unpack clean at the next camp, undo easily. Staking out easy and adjust away.
So far so good anyway after three nights.
