    Building my own setup.

I have been doing some research on the YouTubes, and I have come to the decision to build my own hammock rather than paying double to get a full system. I am just wondering on the tarp part. Can anyone point me to a place I can get Silnylon at a decent price, and can someone point me to a pattern for a large 4 season tarp. We don't get much snow here in Alabama, but when it rains it pours. I want the extra protection of the doors.

I also plan on trying to make my own hammock stand from PVC and wood dowling rods. Once I get the plans worked out I will start posting it here.

http://ripstopbytheroll.com/collections/silnylon. By far the best prices you'll find for silnylon, even better than seconds prices.

Pu coated thatI've used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271109612980. Ten yards will give you a full coverage four season with extra for stuff bags. Sheds water well for me so far.

Eta: For figuring your cat curves, i just grabbed some old flexible fiberglass tent poles and bowed them with string to the depth I wanted (1 inch rise per foot of length) and haven't untied it yet. Makes cat curves easy to cut. Then make little 1/4" or so cuts every few inches in your curves to make the folds easier. Hemming on an inside curve can be tricky

Sweet, and it comes in Safety Orange. I want to be visible in case of Hunters. I would have to be sleeping and some hunter thinks my Camo hammock is a bush they can shoot through.

Lmao! I bought hunter orange pu coated for my son's tarp (christmas gift) for that very reason, and for the fact that he's ten and they all love the bright stuff right now. No stealth camping for us!

Nylon cotton blend? Heavy I think. You can get digital camo in 100% nylon.

I personally don't mind the weight so much, I was looking more at price. Though I may look harder for something in a Purple, I love purple.

Anything natural (cotton or wool) is gonna weigh a friggin' ton if it ever gets wet and takes a lifetime to dry out! Please, heed these words! Go synthetic if you want a lot less headaches! But I also understand the appeal of traditional materials. Just be sure to oilskin your cloth to shed that water!

Good advice. I'll keep it in mind, but the stuff I had on there is a Nylon cotton blend, the same stuff the military make BDUs from, so I thought it might work. But thanks for the heads up and I really can't wait to start getting my stuff together.

On that subject, which do you think would make better lashing for the whipped ends, Amsteel or 550. I know 550 is less expensive, but we are talking about the point where the Hammock is held together.
